Summer, I'm glad you're finally here!

Whew! The past month has been a complete whirlwind here at Casa de Brunson...somedays, quite literally! In mid April, Rus had the brilliant idea of saying, "We really haven't had too many bad storms this Spring," and in May the skies let loose. Growing up in Texas, thunderstorms have just been natural to me, but numerous tornado warnings in one week have not. While the weather was sketchy for a while, we managed to make it out of all the storms without any damage, and are now welcoming Summer with open arms!

About a month ago I took a job as an EEG tech at OU Medical Center, and it has definitely been a move in the right direction! Instead of being a sleeper creeper at night, I have the joy of working with the rest of the living world during the daytime! Fortunately, I made the transition back to days much more smoothly than the one to nights. It's so nice to have a set schedule and be able to come home and hang out for a while after work instead of rushing off to sleep! Daytime work has also meant I get more time on the weekends! It's been in the lower 90s here this weekend and I absolutely love it!

Rus is out of school for Summer and getting a small taste of life after law school! Now that he's a licensed legal intern, Rus has been traveling Oklahoma and getting all kinds of cool experience with his internship! I have a feeling the Fall semester is going to come much too quickly for him, but hopefully May 2011 will come just as soon! I've had the privilege of watching the company softball team play a few times, and let's just say I'm glad they're good attorneys, haha! I think they did win a couple of games, though!

This weekend we had the joy of having my cousin Kody and his fiancee Haley come up to hang out with us. The weather was absolutely beautiful yesterday and we went and watched A&M beat Texas in the Big 12 Championship Tournament, hung out, then ate some delicious fried chicken. Oklahoma City really is a pretty cool little place!

Hopefully the rest of Summer sails smoothly. I realize I don't really get a Summer anymore because I'm a working woman now, but I just love this time of year. There's nothing better than a fun-filled Saturday followed by a lazy Sunday! Okay, so I lied, a fun-filled Saturday and Sunday followed by a holiday Monday is pretty good, too!

Anyway, I think that should get everyone up to speed on life in OKC. Happy Memorial Day!!

What is it you do, again?

Since I'm sitting here at work, I thought this would be an appropriate topic. Typically when I'm asked what I do for a living I try to give a simple explanation, but the answer, "I watch people sleep at night," is a tad much. While I do, indeed, watch people sleep at night, I'm not camped out in the patients' room watching them. In all reality, I'm usually just paying attention to a patient's brainwaves and breathing.

The majority of patients I see have no idea what a "good" night of sleep is. Throughout my typical night I watch patients cozy up in bed and I envy them because they get to sleep at a normal hour. After they've entered into the deep abyss, I watch to be sure they're breathing okay. Sometimes I get to help patients who don't breathe well and place them on CPAP, or a machine that forces air into the airway to keep it from collapsing throughout the night. CPAP is the rewarding part of my job. I love waking severe patients after they've slept with CPAP because they usually feel wonderful. The patients who don't sleep with CPAP for their studies are nice, too, but that's the more boring aspect of the job.

Anyway, this may not make sense since it's pretty early in your morning and late in my day, but I hope this gives you a little insight into my night.

I'm a Registered Sleep Tech, and yes, I watch people sleep at night!

Spring is finally here!

We've been pretty busy lately! The weather has warmed up, and we started Spring cleaning! Now, it may seem like a surprise how much junk we've accumulated in the 7, almost 8, months we've been here, but it was really starting to pile up! We haven't gotten rid of a whole lot, but I feel like that's probably rounding the corner soon. Anyway, the apartment looks clean which I just love! The weather has been beautiful the last couple of days, so we've left the patio door open with the screen pulled shut and just enjoyed the breeze. Addi has decided she doesn't like the wind much, but she loves lying in the sun and usually takes her afternoon nap in front of the patio door. Currently she's being her normal, cute self and is sound asleep in our throw pillows--

This weekend was pretty exciting for us. Saturday we did some running around then went to a Sunday School party which was nice. Sunday the weather was beautiful so after church we went to our weekly eating spot, Mama Roja. Usually our Sunday afternoons consist of a trip to Target, but this week was different! Here's a little back story. For the last few months, everytime we've gone to Target we've looked at TVs, then went on our merry way. Everytime we see a good deal on a TV we always remind ourselves we want a house someday and forget about the TV; this weekend we decided to go for it! Being a bargain hunter, I decided we would probably be able to find a better price somewhere else, so we went to a few stores and finally worked our way to Best Buy. Anyway, to make a long story short, our living room is finally all grown up and our TV set-up doesn't look like it belongs in a bachelor pad!

So now we're all set for The Masters, which Rustin keeps reminding me is in 2 weeks.

We're also ready for Summer to come around here! March is supposed to be the windiest month of the year in Oklahoma, so hopefully some of the wind will die down soon. Today we're having gusts up to 30mph! I guess it's still better than freezing temperatures, but whew! Anyway, that's really what's up with us right now!

Big Game Hunter

We recently purchased Cabela's Big Game Hunter for Wii, and I must say it's pretty awesome! I probably couldn't bring myself to kill a real animal, but I have no trouble killing computer animated ones! Rus tends to talk in his Bear Grylls voice when playing...think Man vs. Wild! We've both taken after Kody and find ourselves yelling out things like, "Die, Bear!" while being attacked...again, pretty awesome! This is how Rus spends his freetime now :-)

Coupon Clippers Delight!

Okay, so I never clip coupons because I don't think i have the time to. Recently another friend of mine posted this site on her blog and although I haven't used it, it's pretty good.

The site is www.hip2save.com and there is always a new coupon or bargain listed out. If a coupon is needed to get the best bargain, there's usually a link to the coupon posted.

Happy shopping!

Yes, I'm terrible at blogging!

Okay, so it's been quite a while since my/our last post, but life has been crazy!

As of February 8th Rus and I have been married 6 months, and time has been flying by. The past few months have been especially exciting around here. We managed to make it home for Christmas thanks to leaving a day early or we would've been trapped in OKC by the 14 inch blizzard! Being from Texas, I don't think I've ever seen as much snow as we have up here. When we got back home from Christmas, there was still plenty of snow to look at, but it was too cold to play in. Just a couple of weeks ago we were surprised with another snow/ice storm, so we got to make snow angels and take lots of pictures of the snow.

Also, all kinds of little puppy toys have taken over our apartment and there's this tiny, little puppy ruling the roost! Rus and I have been talking forever about getting a puppy and I've just been brushing him off. Over and over I would tell Rus how we didn't need a dog, it would be too much work for now, blah, blah, blah. Well....I caved! It only took me hours of pouring over pictures of puppies to tell Rus I was ready to track one down. We looked all over the internet and found our precious little Addi right here in OKC. We've had her almost 6 weeks now, and I cannot believe I didn't want her! I'm a little partial, but she might just be the cutest little puppy...see for yourself!

This was Addi's first night home! She seemed to adjust pretty quickly!

She didn't care for the snow much, in fact, she doesn't like the cold much at all! You can't really tell, but she has a cute little puffer vest to keep her warm!

Addi is 3 months old today! Her G-Mom and G-Dad bought her some toys when they came to visit, and she absolutely loves her donut!Rus also made his school's trial team this year, so he's been prepping like crazy for their competition! Saturdays have been filled with practice and their regional competition is a week from this coming Saturday. He's having a great time and I enjoy seeing him so excited about everything. I think he's enjoying seeing all his work in the classroom and at his desk being put to use!

Oh well, I'd say that's a good update for now! Sorry to keep you all in the dark for so long, I'll do better this time!

My, oh my

I can't believe it's been so long since I've updated! I never do well with the whole online posting thing. Anyway, we've been pretty busy lately! Rus is gearing up for finals and I'm finally settling in at work. So here's what's been happening for the last two months:

  • We finally got our apartment organized...just don't open the closets
  • Oklahoma City really isn't too bad, but we miss our friends and family
  • We've found a church we like
  • Rus made a trial team
  • We've discovered Orange Tree Frozen Yogurt, which is much better than Lemon Tree (Rus will disagree)
  • People in our complex reeeeaaly enjoy Halloween, or at least decorating for it
  • There are actual seasons here, and Fall came early this year
  • We love eating at Mama Roja...roasted salsa and complimentary sopapillas!
  • We almost bought a puppy, but resisted temptation

All in all, we're settling in! We can't wait for everything coming up in the next couple of months...well maybe we could wait on finals, but we're definitely ready for Wes & Kira's wedding, Thanksgiving, and Christmas/Rus' birthday! Anyway, that's really all we've been up to lately! I'll try to update more frequently, and maybe Rus will offer up his point of view some, too!
